The Story
I have been the CIO on the other side of the table.
That changes everything.

I started as a software engineer and spent three decades working my way to the top of banking technology — not through management ladders, but by building things that actually worked. Core banking systems. Digital platforms. Engineering organisations. All from scratch, all at scale, all in highly regulated European and international markets.

At Nexent Bank I spent 17 years as Global Head of IT and CIO, leading 200+ engineers across 10 entities through one of the most ambitious technology transformations in European banking — migrating legacy cores to cloud-native platforms, rolling out AI-native tooling, and building a DevSecOps culture that compressed deployment cycles from months to daily releases.

Before that, I founded IBTECH — the fintech company that became the technology backbone of one of Turkey's largest banks — and successfully exited through integration into QNB. I know what it means to build for scale, and to build to last.

Now I am bringing that operator perspective to the platform and advisory side of the industry — helping banking technology companies translate their product vision into commercial reality, and helping banks navigate what comes next.

What I Do
Areas of
Expertise
01
Core Banking Transformation
Designed, migrated, and operated 10 core banking systems across European and international markets. From legacy monoliths to cloud-native, microservices-based platforms — with zero tolerance for downtime.
02
Cloud-Native Architecture
Hybrid cloud design on Azure Kubernetes Service and Red Hat OpenShift. Built platforms that maintain 99.9% uptime while enabling daily deployments — moving banking from quarterly releases to continuous delivery.
03
AI-Native Operations
Early adopter and practitioner — from AI-driven development tools to deployed enterprise assistants. Evaluated, built the business case, and operationalised AI solutions that created measurable productivity gains.
04
Engineering Leadership
Scaled organisations from zero to 200+ engineers across 10 international entities. Built the culture, the processes, and the operating model — from agile transformation to DevSecOps to distributed team governance.
05
EU Regulatory Compliance
Deep operational experience with DORA, PSD2, and GDPR across multi-jurisdiction banking environments. Compliance is not a constraint — it is a design principle embedded from architecture through to release.
06
Strategic Force Multiplication
Translated complex technical programmes into board-level decisions, commercial narratives, and operating outcomes. The intersection of product, technology, and commercial execution is where I do my best work.

Impact at
Scale

Three decades leave a trail of platforms, teams, and transformations. Here are the initiatives that defined my career — and the outcomes that made them matter.

Nexent Bank · 2007–2025
Multi-Tenant Core Banking Platform

Designed, built, and operated a cloud-native, multi-tenant core banking and digital banking platform from the ground up — supporting retail, corporate, and trade finance banking across 10 international entities. 1,000+ UI screens, multi-currency, multi-language, multi-timezone in a single runtime. The platform that replaced 10 separate legacy systems.

Nexent Bank · 2018–2024
DevSecOps & Agile Transformation

Led enterprise-wide transformation from waterfall delivery to a fully automated DevSecOps pipeline with CI/CD, automated testing, and daily production deployments — compressing release cycles from months to days across 200+ engineers.

Fintech Founding & Exit

Founded IBTECH as the technology arm of Finansbank A.S. — built the engineering team from zero, delivered core banking and internet banking solutions, scaled operations across 10 entities, and completed a successful exit through full integration into QNB (Qatar National Bank).

First Java Core Banking System

Designed and built one of the first Java-based core banking platforms in the industry — a modular, service-oriented, high-availability architecture that now serves 20+ international banks. Built on principles that still define modern banking architecture: no business logic on database or client, full application-server orchestration, XML-based thin client.

Built from scratch
"The hard part of banking transformation was never the technology. It was building the commercial story, aligning the stakeholders, and making sure every technical decision translated into a business outcome."

How I Work
Four Operating Principles
01
Outcomes Over Outputs
Technology is a means. The measure is always commercial, operational, or customer impact — not lines of code or features shipped.
02
Build the Story First
Every major technical programme needs a commercial narrative that leadership can commit to. Architecture without alignment is just expense.
03
Operate at the Boundary
The most important work happens at the intersection of product, engineering, and commercial execution. That is where I spend my time.
04
Speed Through Discipline
Daily deployments and 99.9% uptime are not opposites. DevSecOps done right makes you both faster and safer. Discipline enables velocity.
